Take A Walk With Me: Freak Alley Gallery in Boise

Freak Alley in Boise Idaho

Perfection is achieved not when there is nothing more to add but when there is nothing left to take away. ~ Antoine de Saint-Exupery

I first encountered Freak Alley when I flew to Boise to interview for the position where I now call my work home. It was an instant connection, as I grew up with urban wall art, it is literally all over Philadelphia. You can’t go a block without bumping into wall art, legal and some not-so-legal. Also, we have reconstructed planes that now house terrariums.

It took a few months since moving to Bosie, but I carved out time one dreary weekend to take a longer look at this free, open-air exhibit. Brought Penny along as well, she misses wall art as much as me, I think. I shot some footage, actually some of the last footage, with my trusty iPhone 7+ and created a ‘walk with me’ video. I want to bring my friends and family along on this journey out west!

Let me know if you want to see more of this style of video.

The exhibit consists of an extended alleyway with back entrances for numerous businesses that are covered with an eclectic range of urban street art. You are completely enveloped in the artwork and it will make your heart sing. The designs change every few years and the gallery is maintained through volunteers and public donations. This open-air gallery is free to the public, but I am definitely looking at ways I can support this culture of artistic expression.
